Tyler White

Tyler White is one of those rare creators of online survival content who is amply qualified. Growing up on a ranch, Tyler learned about homesteading and preparedness as a way of life, taught by grandparents who had lived through the Great Depression. Although he had already worked at a guide in Alaska, served with U.S. Army, Tyler knew there was more to primitive survival than he could learn from military schools or other outdoorsmen. His passion for primitive survival drove him on a quest to track down the most knowledgeable instructors in the field, traveling from Utah to the Amazon to Canada and finally back to Utah. Like all competent survivalists, Tyler has experience in a broad range of subjects. Highlights from his background includes criminal justice, law enforcement, archery, small arms, amateur radio, farming, gardening, raising cattle, and poultry. He has attended classified schools, worked in law enforcement, studied too many martial arts to list, and achieved the rank of 2nd Dan in Shōrin-ryū karate.

While this is great info on first aid for a gun shot wound, in a SHTF scenario, your more than likely NOT going to be going to a hospital.
We will need to find the info on how to repair these wounds on our own if possible, because many of us wont have the luxury of a doctor down the street, so to speak.
Just something to think about long term.

Agreed with all, we need to find Dr’s, nurses and combat medics(pecker checkers) to be involved in our groups and teach others.

As Frank (above) said. This is first aid, which is good, however repair knowledge is required. Open incision, anesthesia, ligature, debridement, cautery, varied tissue and organ repair, etc, Prepping is more than just guns, food storage, first aid, and camp survival. Learn all you can, as there may be no one there to finish the job, but you.

Lisa, thank you for the mention of a source for medical supplies!
These comment sections have amazing information from people like you.
I went on the site and it’s amazing what they have.
Do you know of a source for blood to do transfusions?

I agree with Frank, when SHTF, there won’t be any help, need stuff to survive without medical help.

I thought we only wanted to pack junctional wounds, while body cavity needed an occlusive dressing but should not be packed due to drying out the tissues ad potentially causing more damage, plus the fact that creating any substantial pressure from packing there would be extremely difficult? I’d love to get some clarification on that.

Exactly! Conventional knowledge to save a limb based upon a functional and thriving society entailing rushing to a hospital that has doctors there doesn’t apply to preparedness for the harsh times to come. A tourniquet then means certain loss of limb In those times with usefulness of a tourniquet perhaps limited to finishing a gunfight, but to save the limb from life ending gangrene of dead tissue requires you or someone among your group to have the necessary skills and supplies. I’ve done micro surgeries and can reconstruct a destroyed artery and have the specific sutures for exactly that.
