What Is Going On With Our Food?

Between ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), Ebola and the southern border crisis, it seems to me like the world doesn’t need any more problems. But we’ve got a surfeit of them going on. In fact, there is so much going on and we’ve received so many false platitudes from our government that it seems like nobody believes anything coming out of Washington anymore.

The noise level of all these problems is making it so that some problems just seem to disappear. When was the last time you heard a story about Obamacare? Or, how about the drought problems in Southern California? Those are real problems, but due to the bigger, fresher problems going on, we’re not hearing much about them.

Here’s another one for you; one that you’re probably not hearing anything about; GMO (genetically modified organism) foods. It seems that more than half of the crops being grown right now in the United States are GMO. 88 percent of the corn grown in the country is GMO; 90 percent of the canola and 54 percent of the sugar beets.

This sampling shows us that GMO foods are becoming the mainstream here in the United States, whether we want them to or not.

Now, I’m not one to get alarmed about things without reason. There’s plenty of stuff going on right now to get alarmed about, without going around looking for things. But I think there’s something going on with these GMOs that we don’t know about, which maybe we should.

Many countries around the world have outlawed GMOs, due to the risks that exist with them. A couple of years ago, some of these countries suspended shipments of U.S. grown wheat, because the growers couldn’t guarantee that there was no GMO content in the wheat.

Some would say that those countries were acting a bit extreme in their actions, but I wonder; maybe they know something that you and I don’t know.

Man has looked for ways to crossbreed crops for centuries, trying to increase their harvests and develop strains of crops that were more resistant to damage by bugs. I get that. But for most of mankind’s history, we’ve done so by combining the pollen from one species with another, allowing the natural genetic mix to make the difference. That’s much different than what’s happening now.

GMOs differ from these other efforts in that they mix DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) from bacteria or viruses to the DNA of the plant (or animal), trying to create these new strains. It’s an unnatural mix, which leads to unnatural results. Some of the results might be beneficial, but we don’t know what other results might exist.

That’s the rub. GMOs haven’t been properly tested. The testing that has been done is to determine if the new GMO organism does what they wanted it to. In other words, if they developed the new one to be resistant to some type of bug, all they test it for is to see if it is in fact resistant to that bug.

GMO fruits

They don’t test it for anything else. They don’t test it to see if it has the same nutritional value. They don’t test it to see if the new organism has any new chemical compounds in it, which could build up in the body to be poisonous. They don’t test to see if the new organism will kill the bees that are supposed to pollinate it. All they test for is the results they want.

I guess that wouldn’t be all that bad, if the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) was doing their job, but they’re not. Rather than insisting that the developers of these GMOs run tests to make sure that they aren’t dangerous, they’re certifying them for use, without any further testing at all. You and I are the test subjects. We’ll know that they aren’t safe if it starts affecting us.

The first GMO foods which appeared in our supermarkets arrived 20 years ago. In all that time, the government and the food producers have been keeping things secret from us. More than anything, they’ve kept it a secret as to which foods are GMO and which ones aren’t. We could be eating something harmful or that doesn’t provide the nutrition that our bodies need and not even know it.

Other countries are requiring that GMO foods be labeled, even animal feed. Yet the U.S. FDA lets the companies that are producing these GMOs get away with just about anything they want, while keeping it a secret from the American people, the people who are consuming those products. I guess we’re more useful to them as guinea pigs than we are as productive citizens.

Supposedly, GMO plants can’t reproduce. Once they are harvested, they have to be re-seeded every year. That’s good, because it means that if there really is something harmful with them, it’ll be easy to kill them off and start planting real plants once again… at least, in theory.

Recently, some GMO wheat was discovered growing in a test site in Montana. The only problem was, the last time that Monsanto used that test facility was in 2003. Here we are, more than ten years later, and plants which supposedly can’t reproduce have reproduced.

Not only that, but if I’m reading things right, they’ve reproduced over ten times, once for each year. So, in other words, we have no control over these plants.

This isn’t the first time this has happened either; but rather, the second. I mentioned a moment ago that some overseas wheat shipments were suspended a few years ago. That was caused by the same thing happening in Oregon.

These plants that are supposed to die out may just be mutating into something that won’t die out. Worse than that, something that won’t die out and that we don’t know the full risks of having in our environment.

There is no real proof that GMOs are harmful; but there is no real proof that they aren’t either. That’s the problem. Nobody is really looking to see if they cause problems. We could all start dying off and they’d probably say it’s from global warming or some such hogwash.

I’m really not trying to raise an alarm here, I’m just saying that there’s something suspicious about all this. I don’t trust the answers we’re being given and would much rather see some independent studies to prove if these foods are safe or not.

But until that happens, I’m glad I’ve got my vegetable garden. You won’t find any GMOs in there.

  • GMOs are a non-starter for me. There is no proof whatsoever that these genetically-modified foods are harmful to humans and/or animals and, unless it can be proven harmful, I couldn’t care less. People are living longer and longer with less medical problems and who’s to say that GMOs don’t contribute to that. As long as I have a full stomach after I eat and don’t get a toe tag, I’m happy. Unsubstantiated fear-mongering such as this is an illogical scam on the American people. We should be concerned more with the PROVEN problems the progressive agendas are causing and work on eliminating those instead. GEEEEZ

    • My generation, 65+ is living longer but I’ve seen far too many of my friends bury their 20s, 30s and 40s children. Cancer, asthma, heart attacks, etc. Think maybe their diet just might have something to do with it? Your health depends immensely upon what you put into your body.

      • Like dope, pot, etc.

      • …………….along with thousands of other factors. Don’t you think older people like you and I (73) would be far more suseptible to food intolerence? Like I said, show me the proof!!!!!!

  • “GMOs differ from these other efforts in that they mix DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) from bacteria or viruses to the DNA of the plant (or animal), trying to create these new strains”
Oh, God, they’re putting ACID in our food???
    We’re all going to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • And the latest news I read was that now they have developed a GM strain of corn that actually produces its own pesticides inside it – and you really want to eat that?

      • Will it kill off pinworms?

    • Wonderful Article!
      Thank you so much.
      Keep up the GREAT work!
      God Bless

  • It unfortunately can just about all be put on the FDA altar. Between dangerous pharmaceuticals and tampered food, it’s gotten almost harmful to be an American. You know that when Bangladesh turns away our food (corn for instance), we most definitely shouldn’t be eating it. We also shouldn’t be taking the majority of the drugs that are taken here either. It’s sad to know that the majority of our doctors no longer know how to heal but simply how to treat symptoms which allows the dis-ease to continue and not be addressed.

    • Yeah, bangladeshis are experts on food additives, just like Liberians are experts on ebola handling

      • And you’re a Bangladeshi farmer who has first-hand experience/knowledge of the effects of these crops? But wait…we need to wait for “science” to tell us if it’s safe or not…just like the myriad of toxic medical drugs that were approved by the FDA, but later recalled and/or sued over because of long-term (ie, unknown/unexpected) side-effects.

“Ebola”, like all so-called “viruses”, doesn’t exist. It’ll fizzle out too…just like HIV/AIDS, SARS, bird flu, swine flu/H1N1, West Nile, etc…etc. It’s all a medical hoax to further a deeper agenda. “Viral” epidemics make for good fear propaganda though because their etiology/origin is always “mysterious” & vague, they often “emerge” from 3rd World Nations where thousands of deaths were already occurring (from other causes) but can easily be blamed on said “virus”, they’re very difficult to “detect” & virtually “invisible”, they’re always “incurable”, the diagnostic testing (usually PCR) is worthless (but no one questions it) and is based most of the time on a doctor’s hearsay/suspicions, symptoms are always general & can be applied to other conditions, a useless (but toxic) “vaccine” & drugs for it can be fabricated out of thin air for a willing & fearful public, and our only real “source” of diagnostics are the least trustworthy, but best funded & largest medical institutions (CDC, NIH, WHO, etc.) so that doctors won’t even bother doing individual case-by-case thorough work-up on the cause of a patient’s illness or death.

Most people of Liberia and Sierra Leone don’t even believe ebola exists. (Google the articles if you don’t believe me.) They laugh at the preventive recommendations by health authorities because they’re impossible & impractical to follow. These people live in very dense communities & homes, ride around in cramped buses/taxis/trains, cough/sweat/bleed on one another, sleep around (like everyone else in the world), walk & live around human waste, eat/drink contaminated food/water on a daily basis, and work in unsanitary overcrowded clinics & hospitals. They KNOW if ebola was real, they would virtually ALL be dying by now. Yet, we’re told that a Spanish nurse was “exposed” by simply touching her face with a contaminated glove? And we’re also told an African man who seemed quite fine at the airport, dies only 2 weeks from ebola after being “treated” at a top notch institution? (Note: He was “treated” in isolation, and we’re not told exactly what “treatment/drugs” he was given. If I were a betting man, I would bet he was murdered.)

        A good rule of thumb: If it’s a virus…it ain’t real.

When ill, consider the effects of malnutrition & nutritional deficiencies, man-made toxins & pesticides, GMO’s, food additives, junk food, food allergies (due to autoimmune issues brought on by vaccinations, pesticides, & GMO’s), vaccines, medical & recreational drugs, infections from bacteria/parasites/fungus/mold, and chronic stress.

        • As proven in the middle ages, sewerage management, rat control, basic sanitation, and suppression of religious shamans and the like controls health. The Romans did it, the Egyptians did it, etc.

        • Maybe it’s just Mother Nature cleaning house.

          • You’re obviously a liberal with full knowledge about everything, eh? Like Reagan said, “Democrats know so much about so little.”

  • Yes. Glad you wrote this article. I already bought my survival seeds and now I just need to plant and care for them. Definitely not GMO friendly in this house hold.

  • Let’s back up a moment. The reason for GMOs is that the United States is being called upon to feed the world. We taught Africa how to fish 100 years ago and they still can’t feed themselves. We have to feed them. The only way to do that is to have more control over weeds. Have any of you ever actually planted a few acres of a crop and watched it be eaten alive by weeds? You’ll do just about anything to control them. Including spraying Roundup. And what Monsanto did was to make the corn immune to Roundup so farmers can just spray it all over the field and the only thing that will keep growing is the corn itself. That’s all. Instant multiplication of yields. Instant ability to feed the world.

Now, I’m a beekeeper, so I am keenly aware that there are not many studies to indicate what a genetically modified pollen might be doing to bee guts, but guess what, Monsanto just hired a top bee researcher to start doing exactly that. Because we cannot control where our bees fly to get their pollen, in the same way that anybody who says they are selling “clover honey” is lying to you, because there is no way to know where the bees actually go that nectar and pollen.

If we want to go back to low yields, fields full of weeds and insects eating all of our crops, and tell Africa to go feed itself for a change, we could probably do away with Roundup. But not until then.

    • People who are intellectually inferior just can’t be helped.

  • So if you really want to learn more about GMOs, look at what is in them. They started with GMO “Round Up ready”, containing round up weed control to help the farmers battle the superweeds. The superweeds keep adapting so the newest batch this year is round up ready and added in DH2, the same herbicide used in Agent Orange. The pesticides and weed killer are toxic poisons and endocrine interrupters, cause cancers, obesity, and a whole host of health problems. Now add in the Agent Orange and you have just multiplied these issues, and it passes on to future reproduction to affect your offspring. There is a reason other countries either ban or provide informative warnings on GMOs.

    • Why not cultivate superweeds and use them for fuel?
Or could you make alcohol from them?

  • Either mankind will need to end Monsatin or Monsatin will end mankind.

  • Let those that think GM foods are safe eat it. Nature has a way of weeding out lemmings & fools. For those willing to make the time & effort in placing their health as TOP priority, they will reap the rewards…and they should be the parents of future generations. If you think for a moment that vaccines, GMO’s, medical drugs, fluoridated water, and the CDC/NIH/AMA/FDA/USDA/EPA/WHO/etc. are there for YOUR benefit, you’re an idiot. Sorry…but I call ’em as I see ’em.

    • Thank you. You said it so much better than I did.

  • I’m a healthy 85, I stay away from food that is not Organically grown, while I may be departing this earth in a few years, I wish to do it without being miserably sick. I discovered a small market that sells only Organically grown produce, therefore no GMO stuff, And that’s where I get most of my food. I don’t really care what you eat, so go ahead and relish your roundup, I couldn’t care less. Have a nice day
